Just heard from a friend of mine that Bill Cook the founder and president of the Alabama steel guitar assoc. pasted away this Morning. Bill had several great steel shows in the past. I don't have any details at this time about his service.

My friend, Bill Cook

Post by Mike Johnson »

Bill Cook was one of our dearest friends and we loved him so very much. He loved Steel Guitar and Steel Guitar Players more than anyone on this Earth. He inducted me into the ALABAMA STEEL GUITAR HALL OF FAME. He was one of the kindest men I ever knew, always binging flowers and gifts to Joanie and my Mom at the Steel Shows and always remembering holidays with a card or message.

Even with his failing health, he would work so hard to put on those Steel Shows in Montgomery every year. He would never admit it, but we all knew that Bill was paying for most of it out of his pocket. He always enjoyed the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies. He would be dressed to the hilt and looked like a million bucks when presenting the newest member to the Alabama Hall of Fame Family.

Just like there will never be another Buddy Emmons, there will never be another Bill Cook. We will miss you my friend but we will see you again!

ALABAMA STEEL GUITAR ASSOCIATION
HALL OF FAME

BILL COOK

In the fall of 2005, Bill had an idea.
“Alabama needs to have a Steel Guitar Association,
to bring steel guitar enthusiasts together
for the purposes of interaction, promotion, and recognition
of the steel guitar's integral contributions to Alabama's music
development past, present and future.”

We would like to honor and recognize Bill Cook
for his immeasurable contribution to the Steel Guitar community.
He has spent countless hours bringing fellowship, education
and enjoyment to so many through his love of this instrument.

Bill has served as President of the ASGA since its inception in 2006.

Alabama has more notable Steel Guitar players than any other state that I know of. Bill Cook was one of them!

While attending the steel show in Dothan, I met Bill and it didn't take long to understand his love of the instrument and the people that play it.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Our condolences to Bill's family. It was a true pleasure to have gotten to know Bill, and a high honor to be asked to help found the ASGA. The proverbial old was broken.

Bill supported our GaSGA shows for many years. We all loved him! I recall the day he told us he was sick, and how unprepared we were to hear that kind of news. Bill was so vibrant! He was talented, loyal, and had a wonderful personality. Bill was a true gentleman.
Rest in peace, friend...

In addition to being friends with Bill, my wife and I have been good friends with Bill Cook's sister (Cammie) and her husband for many years.

Bill's sister sent my wife this message as follows:
"Please let everyone know again how dear the steel guitar folks were to Bill....like another family....he loved each and every one of you guys".

Bill will be missed by all of us.

I met Bill through the forum several years ago discussing a guitar we were both interested in and Bill bought it. We met in person in St. Louis in 2007 and he was like and instant friend, very very personable and real. With him was young man he was introducing named Tyler Hall who has become a serious player with many years ahead of him.
Rest in peace Bill you have done great work! Billy

Haven't been on the forum in several weeks and was shocked to read about the passing of my friend Bill Cook.
I had called Bill a few months ago and could tell he wasn't feeling very well.
Robin and I send our sympathy to all his family and friends.
RIP Bill.
