I use a heat gun now, not a flame, but I like the hot water idea too.

finger pick solution
Just go down to the local sporting goods store and ask for the rosin they use for compound bows and dip your fingers in that

If you use picks with BIG-@ss'd clamps, like ACRI's:

AND reshape them patiently with TWO sets of pliers & files & whatever else turns you, AND use either saliva or spit (depending on which side of the Missississippi you're on*), you'll never have to read these repetitive posts again!
