Someone is going to get a nice guitar here. Beautiful, and not a finish you get to see very often. Love my Marlen.

Hello Fred, sorry I did not get back to you I got really busy, what type of wood is that on the Marlen? And does it have splits? Probably doesn't have splits but just curious.

I would not have a clue as to splits but I do not think it has them. As for the wood, I don't know that either. I did ask my brother Orville and he looked. Said he didn't see no cracks or splits anywhere. It is actually a very nice guitar and in excellent condition. Wish I was in as good condition as it is. Orville is a lot sharper on this stuff than I am. I don't get too much past him. He is in the know.

The wood on this guitar is rare Cocobolo.
Cocobolo is a tropical hardwood of Central American trees belonging to the genus Dalbergia. Only the heartwood is used; it is typically orange or reddish-brown, often with darker irregular traces weaving through the wood.
