I like my ‘95 LeGrande II and it will probably be my last steel to ever own. All I know about the other guitars is what I heard Mickey Adams say about the first LeGrande’s. Don’t buy anything unless it has the 14hole bellcranks. My only complaint is the half stop on my second string can’t be felt because of total numbness in my right leg. So, I have to listen, to hear it.

I have an LL2 just like yours but mine is matte black. Great guitar! I also have a 4 hole LL1 SD10. I feel like my LL2 tunes better but I think my LL1 sounds better.

| I didn’t know much about the bellcranks until one of the little c-clips came loose and a rod fell out. I put it back in the wrong hole on the crank and couldn’t get the pedal to tune up. I finally figured it out, changed holes and haven’t had any problems with it since. I also went to Ace Hardware and bought a bunch of those little c-clips for spares. |

Great sounding guitars but some of them had a problem where the changer finger is at rest on the aluminum end plate. Especially on A pedal change.They will wear out a slot in the end plate which gives it tuning issues. I've had two that have done that. Had to take end plate off and aluminum weld in the notch and file it smooth. Problem solved but a lot of work. Still great guitars, right next to a push pull in tone.
I don't really mind the four hole bell cranks of the earlier ones. They are stamped medal and can and do break. They are also a little harder to fine tune pulls.

I've been playing LeGrande III's for a year or so now and I am really happy with them. The counter force really works and the tone is great. At the moment I don't miss my old PP's. There is even something about the Emmons Legrande sound that works better then my push pulls for some of the music I play.
I remember a year when a bunch of top Nashville guys stopped playing Emmons Legrandes at steel shows. There new steels just didn't have that shimmer and growl or that complex solid midrange. They still played astonishing music but something was missing to my ear.

I have a 95 LII also owned an early LI, both excellent. I wouldn't worry about the 14 hole vs the 4 hole BC's, they both get the job done, The 14 hole allows for fine tuning the timing of pulls. Consider how many guitars are on the market with 4, 5 or 6 BC slots. Don't pass by a 4 hole Legrande if it stands in your path !

| Best sounding Emmons I've ever played was a D-10, LL, black mica once owned by John Hughey. PU's were wound to 20,000 ohms each. |

| In response to Henry, #1 need to keep the endplate pivoting ledge lubricated. #2 Don't over adjust the drop return springs. #3 Easily patched using JB Weld. |

| Just bought a LL2 s/n 1216L. It is replacing a Wilcox SD10 which I bought to learn psg on. I decided I could learn on a good guitar just as well as on a less expensive one. Love it and it will probably be my last guitar. |
