My best guess is the classic clawhammer or crowfoot G.

That chord sounds adventurous and not disharmonic at all. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

Looks like a G7th with the the high D added on string 2. String 5, A string is muted. _________________ ShoBud Pro 1, 75 Tele, 85 Yamaha SA 2000, Fender Cybertwin, |

Jim,
I'm sure Dwight Yoakum never even heard of that chord! |

Just give me a good old three chord country song, with no Eb7th!

I've listened to a lot of Dwight Yoakam's music, Erv, and I don't think there are many Eb7ths in there anywhere!
Methinks he's just posing... Although, I did see him live just a few weeks ago, and he's a very tasty guitar player. |

Probably, like a lotta people, if he wants an Eb chord, he'll just use a capo and play in D. |
Saw Daryle Singletary live recently as well, and he used a capo often. And, when there was a key change mid-song, he just reached down and slid the capo up a fret or two! |

Well if Daryl was contributing legitimate rhythm guitar (rather than just using his guitar as a prop) it would be perfectly correct and for him to use a capo. That's the way country rhythm has been played for many years, particularly on music with a feel like Daryl's. Mostly out of a G or D open position. It's just as correct as playing bar chords for swing, etc. For example, watch a Time Jumper video and you will notice when Dawn Sears sang a straight 8 country song, Ranger Doug often put aside his Stromberg and went to a flattop with a capo! His archtop would just be wrong!
Always use the right tool for the job. _________________ Bill Cunningham

just use a capo
I get a kick out of where this is going... Pretty much the most times DY has ever played an Eb was when we used to tune everything down a half step while touring...
and then he would have been just fingering an E chord. |
