Many THANKS to Paul for those first hand recollections of the early days,,I had heard various accounts of him sharing the stage and trading licks with Buddy. Guess he is sharing the BIG stage now with Buddy, Hal, Jimmy and others. When I saw him here in San Antonio back in the early 80s he was obviously having some problems (didn't seem to hurt his playing any!),,,hope and pray he put those demons behind him!! Talent beyond measure,,and like others have stated,,,personality and generosity to match RIP Randy,,,

Bobby, Thank you for the post, and please relay the results to Robyn.

I only got to meet Randy a few times, but I had heard so many stories about him from my brother Chuck, whom he had worked with in SA. I listened to a lot of Randy's work, and he was such a talented musician, some of the work on your recordings. When I met him he was a fine individual to visit with and I know that his friends and family will truly miss this great man.

RIP Randy and Condolences to the family.

So very sad to read this news.

I did not know Randy personally like some of you did, but I did know of him & some of his great playing.

My deepest & sincerest condolences to all of his family
& close friends.

I am sure he will be missed by all.

What a GREAT player - he had the sound we all strive for!!

RIP Sir - you sure deserve that.

Randy was an incredible steel player. He came as close as anyone sounding like the Big "E". He was also a former member of Johnny Bush's band during the days Dickie played for Bush. Last time he and Bobby were in Tulsa at Cain's a few years band he knocked it out of the park doing the Price songs, sounded just like Buddy, and what a thrill that was.

I heard him play once and he was fantastic...I wish somebody could write a short biography of him, I know a bit about him playing piano and then steel. Would like to hear about his children, background etc. Funniest thing I heard about him was one time he was called in to play piano for Darrell McCall and people said he made it sound like a steel.

I would like to share my thoughts about Randy Reinhard's passing away yesterday:
The first time I ever saw him I was a little girl living on a farm in Arkansas. We always watched the "Ted Mack Amateur Hour". Randy was a contestant on the show one night, He did a great performance, tap dancing! I never dreamed I would one day be married to that little boy! Though we divorced many years ago we were both very proud of our wonderful son! Randall Wayne Reinhard II who is a great drummer and carries his dad's love for music.
Randy was a great musician and was always passionate about his music. His talent was amazing!

Thanks to Tracy Pitcox by having Randy in his band for a time, Roy and I performed some shows with him in the last couple of years. We had some really good laughs on stage. It's a great blessing to forgive the past and hold on to love that remains, even though it takes a different form. And, I can tell you it was quite and experience to have my ex-husband playing piano and steel and our son with the same name playing drums, while I'm singing "Your My Best Friend" with my husband of 22 years. I wish we had that on video. I will never forget that show! That experience did a lot for all of us!
To Randy's beautiful daughter, Robyn,
I will carry you in my heart and in by prayers. I love you.

I heard Randy and Buddy playing the ISGC in the 70's. What a show. I had the privilege of meeting Randy and Bobby Flores at show in Richmond, MO a year ago. Both super nice people. Randy and I visited like we knew each other for years. He invited me to come see him in Texas, and sadly, I didn't make it. He was a GREAT musician and I am thankful for getting to know him.

Yes Ray,,,I know what you mean about Randy visiting like old friends,,,I barely knew him in passing from back in the 80s but a few years ago they played the Comal County Fair,,,before the show I spoke to him and told him I was looking forward to hearing him. Then during the first break,,the whole break,, he joined my wife and I and talked as if he had known us forever,,,,way, way past the norm,,,,really surprised me! He was a very special person in more ways than one. I know he was married to Barbara Fairchild, but I wonder if he was married at the time of his passing,,,or what was the cause of death,,,haven't seen an obit??

I was familiar with Randy for one song only: South of the Border; but his playing on that ONE SONG was so huge that I considered him one of my very favorite steel players. I've been enjoying listening to some of his other work as referenced in this thread, and I'm sad he's gone.
