What are the best Tom Morrell non-pedal recordings?

Post by Jim Fogarty »

.......and where/how do you get them?

I've seen a bunch of Youtubes, and Tom's playing is outstanding, but his recordings aren't too available. Is there a good source for them.....and which feature the best non-pedal playing?

Thanks!

http://www.texassteelguitar.org/ also shows Tom Morrell and the Time Warp Tophands CD's.

I think I have everything from 2 to 10.

Ones that get the most play are Pterodactyl Ptales, Uptown, Smoke...

I Can't Give You Anything But Love on PP blows me away every time I listen to it. Simply amazing work by Tom.

No Peddlers and Son of No Peddlers both have several other guest steel players for some variety.

I think any of these recordings would be a no-peddler's treasure...as well as for many of us peddlers and all W/S lovers.

My goodness how can I have forgotten

Relaxin is right up there as a classic performance album. I usually alternate between doug jernigan and tom Morrell voicings for "All the things you are"

I like Relaxin' and Stylin', then No Peddlers and Son of No Peddlers. They're all great though.

There is another, "Wolf Tracks", but it may be hard to find. I think I have everything Tommy put out. They are all great!

There is a 3 CD set by Nolan Bruce Allen that has Tom and the time warp tophands as backing. Don't know much about Mr Allen but there is great non pedal steel all over these albums.

Tom plays on Rich O'Brien's CDs too, especially Seasons, Roads, and Faces. Great stuff.
