How to pull Fulawka cross bar shaft

Any one out there remove (pull) the square cross bar shaft(s) on a Fulawka? If so...what is the secret? I have done this on my Sierra, Lamar and MSA, but the Fulawka cross bars are installed in a domewhat different manner. I have removed the screws that hold the "pill box" shaft housing on one end, but am hesitant to angle the shaft upward to free it from the hole in the rail, for fear of damaging the bushing that is in the hole. Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated.
