Settings for the Cube 80

Post by W. J. Copeland »

I may be double posting this. But, I have a new Cube 80 GX that I can take back if it does not work good on Pedal Steel, especially E 9th. If you are using one, I would appreciate any advice as far as which settings you have found to be adequate. Thanks in advance.

W.J. - Try this: Blackface amp, Bass @ 3 o'clock, Mid @ 8 o'clock, Treble @ 9 o'clock, Presence just barely on, Warm Delay @ 8:30, Plate Reverb @ 2:00. YMMV, but it works pretty well for me. Oh - Master volume up all the way, gain just barely on, volume to taste.

I have an 80XL. I don't know how similar or different it is from the GX, but FWIW, here are my current settings.

JC Clean:
Bass: 4 o'clock
Middle: 2 o'clock
Treble & Presence: both noon (straight up)
Delay: 11 o'clock (and tap the speed button twice as fast as I can)
Reverb: 3 o'clock

I should mention that I use a 15" extension speaker with it, which I greatly prefer for PSG.

YMMV.

Jim, thanks for your input. Just curious, are you using a powered or non-powered ext. 15" speaker? I have had 3 folks give me their settings for steel, and they are all very close. This sure helps cut down on the learning curve.
