The two Dick McIntire CD's arrived from Australia today. What a thrill to finally hear Jerry Byrds inspiration. Up to now I only had two songs by DM on a various artist LP.

Bruce Clarke kept in constant email contact with me through the rough journey from Down Under to the Blue Ridge. The Cd's were $20 each and the airmail (included in the price) was $11.50, so he is clearly in this for the love of Hawaiian music.

He says that Dick McIntire Vol 3&4 are in the works. I plan on getting the Andy Iona Cd's next along with Bruce's own CD's.

If any of ya'll have stories or facts on Dick McIntire - I would love to hear them. I know he was a contemporary of Sol Hoopii and an inspiration to JB, Leon M. and many others but I'm sure many of you have first hand stories.

I almost forgot. Bruce told me he had some unreleased Sol Hoopii radio transcriptions he was thinkin' about putting together. Maybe we can give him alittle push...

I got "Volume 2" of the Dick McIntire series the other day. I agree, great stuff. It's got me tuning in directions I don't normally go (E major and F#9).

Just got my two McIntire CDs in the mail. Great stuff and good sound. Too bad there are no liner notes or photos. The albums were obviously produced on a low budget. The important thing is that they are available and the sound quality is great. Thanks Bruce.

The Andy Iona CDs sound tempting...

I just "snuck" a listen to my birthday presents a day early - the two Andy Iona CD's from Bruce Clarke. Man, I just love that first generation of electric steel players. Seems that's all I listen to anymore. Some of these Andy I.'s are big band swing stuff - way cool!!

I also got Bruce Clarke's CD "Hawaiian Daze". Sounds like a jazzy Jerry Byrd (minus the volume pedal). He's a super guy who has gone out of his way to answer some questions I had.

That Augie is on my Christmas hit list and rumor has it that a Vol 3 of Dick McIntire is on the way.....
