This looks pretty cool! I'm gonna order one when it's available.

Andy: It's been available for months, I suppose Elderly is out of stock. I got mine directly from National. Not much on Hawaiian styles--the only square necks featured are the new "D" model and a steel bodied Delphi. It's still cool however--I listen to it often.

It's no surprise that there is an absence of Hawaiian music in this collection. National it seems is gearing their metal bodied instruments to the blues/bottleneck market.

I can understand this for the single resonator models, but even the TriCones are showcased by blues artists.

Why no Hawaiian music? My guess is that it's too hard to play. Gotta slant that bar ya know.

Gerald, I bet they'd include you on their next CD project- Just let them know what you can do. I talked with McGregor at National recently and he said that demand for squarenecks has increased significantly. Good news!

Sage,
Believe me, I'm not the steel guitarist to represent the Hawaiian contingency in a styles compilation such as this. Although I've been playing 'standard' guitar for 33 years and feel pretty comfortable on it most of the time, I've only seriously been attempting to play Hawaiian steel for the last three years.

When I started on guitar in my teens I had all the time in world to practice and learn, no job, no family to support etc. Today my steel guitar education is just a part of my daily juggling act of work, home and family.

Like I said in my previous posting, Hawaiian steel is hard, ya gotta slant the bar .
