Sho-Bud 14 string pedal steel

Post by Tony Oresteen »

While reseaching Julian Tharpe I came accross a reference to a Sho-Bud 14 string single neck PSG that he played. I assume that the 14 string was custom built.

Does anyone know how many 14 string PSGs that Sho-Bud made and when they were made?

I looked for photos of them but no luck. Anyone have a photo of the Sho-Bud S14?

Thanks!

I don't know, but Johnny Cox might be able to tell you. I know that he played one for a while years ago.

FWIW, Here's Julian's coped as given to me by Boogie Sherrard as he tried the JET tuning for a bit. He gave this to me when I played 14's a couple times, but I never explored that tuning, interesting as it is.

I was pretty much fixed into the modern Universal tunings.

For what it's worth, Bobbe Seymour told me that Sho~Bud made the keyplates, necks and fretboards for 4 14-string steels.

Julian got one, Barbara Mandrell got one and two were left unfinished. I bought a plate-neck-fretboard set from Bobbe about 7-8 years ago. I've never done anything with them.

My info may be wrong, I am passing it along as is: I was told...

I heard there were three in existence. One of them is here in the bay area I believe. I saw a green one in Casa Grande Arizona for sale about 25 years ago.

I'd love to see a pic if anyone has one! I'm kind of a Sho-Bud nerd.

Didn't Shot build a double stringed guitar?
Something like 20 or 24 strings?
