I'm fairly new to this city and was wondering if there is anyone nearby that you guys would trust your well loved guitars and steel guitars to. I've had the experience in the past where you take your instrument to a music store and they pass your request onto the repair person. I hate to do this. I much prefer being able to go into the workshop and ask questions of the actual person doing the repairs.

Don't know about Petaluma, but if you take the short drive south to SF, I'd take your guitars to Gary Brawer. He's located inside Real Guitars in downtown SF. He is THE guy around here.

Micheal Dolan in Santa Rosa and Jim Surles at Zone Music in Cotati are the two guitar techs I always hear about. I've never used them, but I may be taking my guitars in for rewiring and shielding soon. I hear that Jim Surles takes a long time, don't know if it's because he's backed up with orders or flakey. Also Larry Craig in Marin county I hear is good when he's not touring with Niel Young. Larry is a steel guitarist, so if it's a lap steel you want to have work done on, you may want to use him, but I don't think he is a certified steel mechanic. Hope this helps. Dave
