For the most part, I have little trouble with guitar stompboxes. Occasionally, with everything plugged in and on (and damping the strings), there is a background noise when a pedal is engaged (pulsing with a tremolo, for instance). I have a new delay, and I'm getting some noise. Seems like it depends on how quiet (well-grounded) a place is, but I don't know.
There's an internal setting to have the input at 0, -6db or -12db. I was told I might need to switch from default (-6db) to 0, as the pickup might have less output than a guitar.
That sound correct? I had always heard a pedal steel's pickup ran hotter than a guitar's.
Can anyone clue me in on this? I can try different input settings, but I'm curious about the steel's pickup anyway. Also, does it greatly vary with the type (humbucker, single coil)? _________________ 1979 MSA U12 Pedal Steel

If it's after the volume pedal, it MIGHT be substantially attenuated. But it is setting off my hooey detector. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

No, it's before the volume pedal, Lane.
The builder is very reputable (I have other pedals of theirs), but this wouldn't be the first time I had a guitar pedal act weird with pedal steel.
Do pedal steel pickups run hotter/have more output (or less) than guitars? _________________ 1979 MSA U12 Pedal Steel

They are substantially hotter. Transients can often exceed 1100mV, which is getting up around line level. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
