Deluxe Reverb or equivalent?

I have Allen transformers in a couple amps. They seem to be quite good.

Yes Allen Amps Heyboer transformers are nice custom wound transformers and fit in those small Princeton Reverb and other larger amps chassis nicely.

I recently used an Allen amps custom PT in a Bassman 20 chassis I converted to 40w 6L6GC gigging amp for a guy that I maintain his gigging DR Z EZG50 head.

Lot of good transformer out there, not in any order:

Heyboer
Mercury
Edcor
Magnetic Components
Pacific
Dynaclone
old Stancor
old Schumacher
old Triad
Hammond

I have a Vintage Sound made by Rick Hayes. He takes the Fender schematics with point-to-point hand wiring. He also wire the normal channel through the reverb/vibrato and voices that channel as a brown-face/black-face combo, or 1 other voicing of your choice. He has the reverb set up like the old separate reverb unit Fender made with dwell control. He does the Caesar Diaz mod to take the vibrato out of the circuit and give you back 3-5 watts above the normal 22 watts. He also does twins, vibroverbs, princetons, pro, supers, etc. and he is a great guy!

Based on all of this good feedback and my own research, I think I am going with an Allen Amp Encore with a slightly larger transformer to get the power up to 40 watts(according to David Allen) with one PS 12 Emminence speake. David suggested the speaker as it is designed for steel guitar.
Should be ample power with lots of clean headroom with sa nice tube sound.
It'll be a while but the Target is in sight.

I like the Allen Amps Old Flame because it has the 3 knob reverb, no RAW control (don't care for it's function or sound), and Master Volume. It's a pair of 6L6GC tubes so plenty of power.

Well, you can tsake the reverb out from the tank, and plug it into the Normal channel on a Fender, and have great control of the reverb.

Well here is one of my versions of the Deluxe Reverb. It's loaded with KT66 power tubes and huge trannies to support that filament current. I also used 2x10 golds for speakers which is awesome! This is one of my very favorite guitar amps I have built over the years.

Mike, that looks awesome. I too put the Celestial Gold in my FDRI, and it made that amp come alive, good call.

Some of the other mods I've done to make mine sing:
- Pine cabinet
- Pull pre-amp tube #1
- NOS Baldwin or Telefunken in pre-amps tube #2 (BTW - the Baldwin's are great NOS preamp tubes, much hotter output that the Tungsol or Telefunken, but those sounds sweet too.

Very happy with this amp now; I keep looking, but have not found anything better I can afford..

Is there really any difference (sound-wise) between the various 5AR4 tubes?

Oh I don't know. I think different rectifiers do sag differently which you feel more than hear. I have to say that old Bugle-boy does sound sweet

Tube rolling get's the most bang for the buck along with deciding which speaker your going to use.

Thank you Fred for your thoughts, I do appreciate it. I am getting busier with the amp stuff as a lot of pros in Nashville are starting to use and record my stuff. Repairs are pretty steady as well.

Hey Tom,

You know I've never plugged my steel into this amp or played it through Golds. I am guessing they are not the prime choice for steel but I love em on guitar amps.
