Mine is about 4" wider than my guitar and 4' deep and 1' high. I have used one for over 30 years. I do not sitting "down" in the guitar amp area and under the drums. It also makes me head level with the other front line players and we can talk back and forth eye to eye.

I got a "raise" this year where I pick. I'm now on a 4'X 4'x 12" riser. Only problem it's not enough for my amp too and it has to sit on the side (the back of the riser is against a wall).
It is better as I'm in the staff band at a "jam show" and it keeps the singers from bumping and kicking the steel.
It only took me 6 years to get a "raise" [This message was edited by Jack Stoner on 20 April 2005 at 05:28 AM.] |

I love to have a raise. Actually I almost get mad if I don't have it, especially if the drummer has one...

Yes it has carpet, I used 2x2's and plywood with 1/2" water pipe for legs (5).

My riser is in three sections to make it easier to carry around. What I like about it is that I am almost eye level with the guitarists on stage. |

My old dear departed friend, Chuck Edwards, always used a riser. It worked out very well when the stage was too small to fit the steel comfortably, he had his own mini stage that he would set off to one side. (His, of course, was wired with recepticles, etc.).
I have seen a few bands where the steel is on a riser on one side, and the drums on a riser on the other. It looks pretty sharp.
Plus, it puts the steel player eye to eye with the rest of the band.
