I'm currently using a DeArmond volume pedal which I'm SURE came with the pilgrims on the mayflower. Works perfectly, but I was wondering ... Do the newer pedals make enough of a difference to warrant the high price tags?? Thx ... Bob

The newer pot. pedals only give you a different height and feel when moving the pedal up or down. Otherwise, it is JUST a pot being controlled by your foot. If you are comfortable using it, then keep it.

I still have and use my 1953 DeArmond pedal when I stand up and play my T-8 Fender at oprys. Probably on its 10th pot or so by now.

Thanx,
Jim

I tried many DeArmond pedals, and they all used a rack and pinion gear. They worked okay, but weren't smooth-feeling, like a good string pedal. Better than no pedal, but just kinda "clunky" feeling, and clunky looking, too.

What Donny said, plus the fact that the DeArmond only uses about 65% of the pot's travel, so it either doesn't turn all the way on or it doesn't turn all the way off.

On the up side, they are much flatter in profile than the Ernie Ball, Bigsby, etc. pedals which many players find uncomfortable to use when seated.

Bottom line is does it work for you and if so, well then, you already have what you need.
