I got the all-time best open sound out of my Bear Creek Weissenborn using open "E" tuning. But these days, after some trial & error, I keep it in A6th (same as C6th tuned down or hi to low: C#,A,F#,E,C#,A. I get a more resonant, lovely sound than I got in C6th or Bb6th and the best part is I can use a standard set of "G" tuning Dobro strings.
The general dryness of the climate/time of year seems to have a big effect on the quality of the sound of the hollow necked Weissenborn design.[This message was edited by Andy Volk on 13 October 2001 at 06:04 PM.]
