Hello fello steel players,
I've been playing a 2000, LeGrand III,
8 and 4, for about a year and a half. I'm ready to add a LKV. I see that PF uses a change on pedal 4 that loweres the B and G# ( 5 & 6 ) to A and F#.
Looks like a good change. Anyone else use this change? And does it work well on a LKV ? And what does the 0 pedal do ? I've been working on the E9 neck all this time. ( Day Set Up ) Can I afford to loose the pedal 4, to the E9 neck at this time, if I put the PF change on pedal 4 instead of the LKV ?
Thanks,
J. W.

John:

I don't have the PF pedal 4, but I think the conventional wisdom is to use it as pedal 4 or pedal 0. By the current norm, the vertical is usually the B-Bb lower.

The B-Bb is pretty much the "standard" 5th lever these days.

Like I said I don't have either right now, but thought I'd toss in my $0.02 worth.

Anyone have different ideas? I'm definitely open also since I will be adding the PF pedal in the next few weeks.

That's a lot of changes for a vertical. It would be too stiff for me.

My LKV drops 3[G#] and 6[G#] to G. Right off the bat, it takes you from major to minor in the open position.
I drop 5[B] and 9[B] to Bb with LKR.
I play a U-12.
