Carpsteel replacement tuning nuts

Post by Louie Kirkpatrick »

I have a Carpsteel that I want to replace all of the nylon tuning nuts. I have one that is split and a few that turn too easily and require occasional re-tuning of the pull. I need to know the diameter of the pull rods on the Carpsteel. I don't have a caliper. They looked like 1/8 inch, so I ordered a bunch for 1/8 and of course the rods are smaller diameter. The nuts just slipped right over the threads. Anybody know what they are?

Probably 3/32. A lot of guitars use this diameter rod.

There is 3 different sizes of rods on steel guitars I have worked on. 1/8". on MSA, 7/64" on Emmons and 3/32" on GFI. You need to get someone with a dial caliper or micrometer to measure the rods so you can get the proper size tuning nut.
Since I have 2 MSA's steels and a GFI steel I buy the small ones that fit a 3/32 rod. If I need any for my MSA's I just drill them out to fit the 1/8 rod.
