Jeffran C6th Tablature

Post by Bill Galvan »

I recently contacted Jeffran Music and asked Melissa (Jeff/Fran's granddaughter)
if she could locate and make me a copy of Jeff's "Music To Get C6th By".You may
remember this great package of steel numbers that Jeff did 30+ years ago. The
package included: Hold It; Girl From Ipanema; The Preacher and others.
The reason for this post is to commend this young lady for the outstanding
customer service she is providing for the steel guitar world. She located that
package and has a copy in mail to me complete with CD. You won't find many
vendors that are willing to put forth that kind of extra effort to satisfy a customer.
Good work Melissa. I know G-ma and G-pa would be very proud of the way your
conducting their business.

Bill, do you know if she planned to make that generally available? I would hate to bother her if not, but would like to get that package, maybe one day get around to it.

I'm guessing she could sell quite a few of those. It's a great package.

Availability of Jeffran tab

Post by Bill Galvan »

DG Whitley: Don't know her plans for Music To Get C6th By but she reproduced it for me so I assume she would do the same for anyone who wants it. She said she had to search the Jeffran archives high and low to find the material so I assume she would like to sell a few copies.
Wait until I actually receive the package, then I'll make another post here to describe
what she sends.

Yes DG she will. She is great to work with. It is so special for her to take on this, and we all should be very thankful. Jeff and Fran done such a great job of featuring the pedal steel and all the lessons, and to have their grand daughter keep the business going. Thanks little girl.

Music To Get C6th By

Post by Bill Galvan »

I received Music To Get C6th By today. The package contains THE PREACHER;
B. BOWMAN HOP; THE SHADOW OF YOUR SMILE; HOLD IT; and GIRL FROM
IPANEMA. The package is actually entitled "The Best Of Music To Get C6th By".
The tablature is written in the (great) J. Newman format. I have not listened to the
CD yet but I'm sure it's ten tracts of Jeff playing each song exactly as tab'd
followed by a rhythm track with no steel.
Thanks to Melissa again for the extra effort.

I just wanted to thank you all for the kinds words again, they are so much appreciated! I cannot express enough how much a pleasure it is to me to provide Jeff's material to all of you! If there is anything I can ever do, I will to the best of my ability, get it to you! Jeff and Fran were such a blessing to not only me but to many others as well, it is the least I can do to carry on the "Jeffran Torch" in their honor. I look forward to providing the best service alongside the BEST Steel Guitar Instruction around

I bought that about 30 years ago. Still have it and I still use some of the licks and have recorded several of the songs.

Melissa, that is so sweet of you to reach out like this. I personally would like to thank you, and I'm sure Jeff would have wanted it. I hope that you will be able to continue meeting the needs of every one. Are you still going to have Jeff's finger picks? If so I will have to order about 10 set from you. Make sure I have enough.

I am a late arriver to this thread. I imagine a lot of folks have figured out what I am about to say but perhaps some haven't. Everything Jeff Newman tabbed out has utility far past being just another song to know how to play. The licks I learned from Jeff were always a doorway into and entire style. In other words the concepts would lay a foundation to facilitate learning even more.

I am going to order that C6 book. I am always interested in any of his old material. The DVDs are wonderful but the Tab + Sound are great folks who already know how to play.
