Rats come in lots of flavors- even the same models can sound wildly different from one to the next. When I worked for a big retailer, I'd test out cases of them one at a time, and take the ones with the widest "clean" sweep area and save 'em for my country playing pals. If you get one that turns to about the 11 o'clock position on the gain knob it is gonna give you the best chance at finding a real sweet overdrive tone. Or you could just spend the extra jack and get a Z-Vex S.H.O. pedal.
