I suppose one could technically play such a thing by spinning the bar around 180° with the nose pointing toward the player. Has anyone ever attempted such a thing?

I don't read notation well, but I have come to realize part, or a lot of what makes players of that calibre so pretty to listen to. Dick plays many notes right on the beat. The rushed ahead of the beat notes are carefully used in the right context, and the rest of the time it's just right on the beat. This unrushed feel is the essence of pretty , for me. On the same course of technique, when sliding from note to note, the sliding portion is timed to the timing of the music, not rushed! Not to press this too much, but it is important to me!
Because I find myself falling into this rushing habit. Trying to improve my sound!
