This Epi looks like it was a nice axe at some point. But what are those bars for? Or do they all have them & I just didnt know about it?

Palm pedals, definately after-market. How did he pick, bar and push the pedals at the same time? Or rather, with what appendage did he bar the strings?

That's just plain WEIRD. I assume the player would pick a note, let it sustain, then change the pitch by pressing on the metal bar(s).

Since it would require moving your right hand over to the changers to actuate them and, as such, rendering your ability to pick the strings impossible, I'd guess this guitar was set on a stand or framework and the pedal changers were pulled down by some sort of wire or chain attached to a floor mounted pedal assembly. Reminds me of Jay Harlin's early efforts.

Actually, I think those are tuning changers similar to a set I once owned back in the late forties. Before you commenced playing a song, you selected the tuning with one of the changers...usually C#m, Emaj, Amaj, or whatever you had pre-selected. Handy little gizmo but they were never very accurate...at least, mine weren't.

George- In your highly esteemed opinion, would the presence of those palm pedals impede the function of the tuners; nut; etc?
