Beats me! I see you've got an A chord triad, 5-3-1 on the 1st 3 strings, then the 6 of the A chord on the next string, then a 4th on the next string but whoa! There's a D chord on strings 3-4-5-6-7 so you've got that, Oh well, I agree with John B. "You've found the lost chord"...JH in Va.

Looks like a D9 w a High 5.

Move the high A note down to the low end side and it will be same as an E9 w 9th string tuned to C# only everything is tuned a whole note down.

It's an E9th with B+C down, a lever that raises B to D and a lever lowering D# to C# and F# to E.

Slight variation of Ricky and Bengt, Dmaj9/6 (6 in bass). Clearly many other interpretations are possible, but this really has a lot of similarities to the normal E9, lowered to D (9/maj7 on strings 1,2; 3,1,5,3,2,1 on strings 4-9 instead of 3-8; then the high 5 on string 3; and the 6 on string 10).

Hey, why is E9 not called Emaj9 (E9 usually refers to dominant 9, i.e., b7 instead of maj7)? I suppose simplicity, or perhaps the b7 on string 9? Isn't it customary to name chords after their leading voices, putting the bass voices under the slash. Don't most players view the string 7 F# more as a melody note 2, not so much as a 9? Of course, this is all just notation and isn't all that important, just curious if there's some pedal steel lore on this.

The E9th got its name before the first two strings were added.

Well, my friend had a request to put this tuning on a Bethel D-10. Here is the pedal pulls requested:

1 2 3
1-E
2-C#
3-A-----B
4-F#----------G
5-D ----------------C#
6-A-----B
7-F#----------G
8-E
9-D-----------------C#
10-B
Is this even feasible or not? Or does it even make logical sense to some of you more musically educated guys? Maybe I'll ask Wayne

Dang, I tried twice to edit the 1-2-3 pedals so they would be over the strings pulled, but some kind of computer glich wouldn't let me do it. Anyway you know......

Don, see the UBB Code instructions on how to make charts.

If I am reading the chart correctly, the highest string is an E and the lowest string is the B below the low C of the C6th. The tuning makes some sense it you think of it as a D tuning, but it's pretty low.

If he's thinking an octave higher with the first two strings like the chromatics on an E9th, the 3rd string will surely break. You can't raise a string from high A to B.

You're reading it correctly B0b and that's exactly what is happening. The third string breaks everytime no matter what guage string. He doesn't post on the Forum so I told him I'd try to find out what gives.
The guitar came to him with an E9th tuning and the person could never learn it. I think they better go back and take some E9th lessons. Thanks, Don.
