Tomorrow is my birthday, and a great present would be for someone to send a private jet to Santa Rosa (Charles Schulz Airport) and fly me to Nashville to see Lloyd Green take the stage for the first time in approximately seven years, along with legendary guitarist Billy Sanford.
I'm not holding my breath...
Thanks anyway to Russ Pahl for putting this together!

In a town full of great musicians, steel guitar player Lloyd Green and guitarist Billy Sanford are two of the greatest.
Combined, they have more than a century of experience and have played on recordings by artists including Johnny Paycheck, Charley Pride and Mel Street.
On Wednesday, they will return to the stage for the first time in several years with a show at the Family Wash. They're part of Rusty's Country Cavalcade, a collection of primarily session musicians — including bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jerry Roe — assembled by top-notch steel guitarist Russ Pahl.
"At the sessions, players are special guys. But in the real world, they're chopped liver. I've always thought they should be treated more like artists...they all have artistic spirits, " said Pahl. He has known both men for years, and is married to Sanford's daughter. "Both Lloyd and Billy lost their wives last year. I thought, 'Maybe it'll be good to get those guys out...There's this whole East Nashville scene where people are enjoying old country music. They would love to see those guys who were (on) a lot of the records they're listening to.' "
Green hasn't played a Nashville show in approximately seven years, several of which he spent caring for his sick wife. "All my friends were encouraging me to get back into music. This is a first, tentative step," he explained.
The pedal steel legend couldn't ask for a better reintroduction to the stage than Wednesday's gig. "Everybody's such a world class player that you don't have to look over your shoulder. Everybody knows what to do. It's refreshing to play a live show like that."
Pahl hopes the concert — which will feature a set list of country classics and a few surprise guests — will eventually become a regular event. Not only does he "dearly love the old country songs," but when working with fellow musicians of this caliber, his role is an easy one: "I get to sit back, call people for rehearsals, find the key and let 'em go."
If you go: Rob McNelley Band with Rusty's Country Cavalcade, 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Family Wash (626A Main St.) |
