Is there a "correct" distance to adjust
pickup from string level? Is it based on
the best sound or proper distance?
Input appreciated.

Eddie, that topic has been discussed several times on the forum. I think the most common distance is about 3/16". You can adjust to your taste from there.
You may not notice much change with a slight adjustment from that distance. You amp EQ settings have a lot to do with string balance.
