Heard Elvis on 78 records!

Post by Andy DePaule »

I Heard Elvis on 78 records! 45's too.
For those who know what a 78 is?

The first rock tune I loved was Purple People Eater.
My first dance with a real girl was to the Everly Brothers Cathys Clown. 45rpm.

I'm 69 and still playing Steel, Bass and Guitar and singing old Hank Williams and Webb Peirce stuff 3 to 5 nights a week back here in Saigon where I came 51 years ago as an 18 year old army soldier.

Except back then I didn't get to stay in Saigon and never got to play anything but an M-14 with no special tuning. Metal cowboy hat too.
Much better now they stopped shooting at us.
Been back here 17 years now and loving it.

74. Been playing, or trying to, less than a year and I'm already wanting an upgrade. Not that it'll help my playing but my picture will look better.

boy oh boy, what a bunch of old farts YOU guys are!,, lol..
I will be 63 myself this June...
ah me,, to be 20 again!!..... Most of us have one foot in the box and the other on a banana peel.

There's like ten 60 or 70 somethings here for every 20-30 something!.. it is what it is, just not enough kids getting into steel because on radio or tv these days there is just not that much steel to hear.. It iS there but you have to dig a little, and most kids don't dig much beyond what is popular .
Most of us that started 30-40 years ago, did ok with our steels if we stuck it out and had some decent ability. I would barely have eaten for many years if it weren't for my pedal steel, thats for sure... bob
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

GUYS , I AM 85 , AND I HAVE PLAYING STEEL SINCE I
WAS 12 YEARS OLD , PLAYED IN BANDS , DID SOME RECORDING
AND TEACHING .
BUT NOW I ONLY PLAY AT CHURCH 2 TIMES A WEEK , I MUST
SAY , MY PLAYING HAS SLOWED DOWN A BIT , BUT WHAT CAN
I SAY,STEEL IS IN MY SOUL . JUST THE THOUGHT OF NOT PLAYING MAKES ME VERY SAD.

Interesting. I barely ate for a few years because of my steel.

(Just kidding... I've been very blessed with a successful career as a steel player.)
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
