I have a Deckley S-10 3 & 4, with an A pedal that is hard to push. It seems to push easily, but then hard to get the full movement.
Everything else works smoothly.
Any suggestions??

What I would start with IF everything is lubed and sliding nicely,is making sure of your string gauges on both B strings... I use 017 and 038 respectively... I would loosen one of the B strings, try the pedal, retune it and then loosen the other to see if the problem goes away when either one of the B strings is loose...
It could be a lack of lube somewhere in the pull chain, wrong string gauge, pedal stop out of whack, binding in the changer.. while you are at it, check to make sure the roller nut is moving nicely too...bob |

Thanks for responding , guys.
Every litle bit seems to help.
I'm gaining on it. I can live with it the way it is: I just have to step a little harder. Dean |

See if the pedal works okay unhooked from the pedal rod. My action once got stiff, and it turned out to be beer and soda spilled over the years on the pedal bar. I washed it and relubed it - what an easy fix. |

Check the nylon bushings on the cross rod for wear, check the brass pull rod bushings for wear, check the finger return springs for correct tension, and check to see if that darned block that the fingers hit is beginning to get notches in it. I had to make me a new one of them.

Thanks to these helpful steelers, my A pedal is smooth and easy.
Most helpful was an e-mail suggestion from Ray Minnich, suggesting that the position of the pull rods in the bell cranks might be causing the harder pull. I moved them closer to the cross rod, and made the A pedal push nice and easy.
Thanks, Dean
