A friend is trying to find out the yr. model of his Emmons p/p. He thought it was maybe a 67 but it has no serial number, has pat. number only. Someone told him that they started putting serial numbers in 65 so it was probably a 64 model. Can anyone help him with the answer? By the way, the steel is going to be for sale I think soon, he is thinking about retiring. Has had the steel for many years. He is a forumite but cant seem to get on the forum for some reason so I am listing this for him. The steel will be listed here on the forum when it comes up for sale. Thanks for any help with the age. Doyle

Doyle,

the patent no. 3,447,413 for the push/pull changer was assigned in 1969, but didn't appear on the end block of the split-tail neck until a few years later. So the guitar in question can't possibly be a 1964 model. These guitars had a wraparound neck.

Prior to around 1969, the Emmons logo was a decal (sticker), later a metal, then a plastic plaque.

In the absence of as serial number, more info about the guitar would be helpful to date it even approximately: style of neck (wraparound, bolt-on, split-tail), fretboard design, form of pedals, pedal spacing, knee lever style, bellcrank design, etc.

The missing serial number could be a coincidence, or, more likely, an indication that the changer endplate was exchanged, maybe because of worn-out leg sockets.

Rainer
