While surfing I chanced upon their web site. Wow! The space age has arrived for the steel guitar. Read the adverts and listened to some of the examples. They sounded fine. What caught my attention was the weight. It only weighs 4.3 lbs and that sounds exciting to me with some advanced years on my frame.Has anyone tried this different looking instrument? Robert Randolph ordered one of the first. Where else but the Forum could I ask a question like this and expect answers. Thanks guys. |

I played a Harmos at ISGC, and I really liked it.
Good feel and good tone, maybe not classic stringmaster tone, but good as itself.
It is on my list, with the waist bracket to play standing and moving around.
They do seem to have strated making a pedal version I think, but the lapsteel is very cool.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 04 March 2005 at 10:53 PM.] |

You got to be kidding me.
Looks like a coatrack to me.
Maybe it sounds real good but the design I sure don't like.

I hear Mike Idhe play one, and it sounded fantastic!

I sat down to play their lap steel at their booth in St. Louis, but I couldn't play it for very long without people getting upset by the volume. Something about if just made me play louder.
The lap steels seemed to me to have less sustain than I'm used to but they are actually correct for rock and blues. That's Harmos' main market I think. The tinkertoy design is great looking, very lightweight and very stable.
I haven't seen the pedal steel up close.
