I don't know when this unit had the switch added but it does have one and it looks original to me. this unit was purchased new by a friend who is now deceased.it is in like new condition.there is also a tag on the bottom which says "insert plug fully to connect battery."

With the added switch, you don't need to pull the plug to disconnect the battery. I did the same to my 6A.
That's the only difference between the 6A and the 7A, the added switch. :D
BTW: The switch is not original.

Dave,
Chances are yours would be a 7A.
The switch on the 6A pictured above is not like the switch they used on the 7A.
Goodrich used a mini toggle and it was positioned on the other side of the input jack.

Well, we have determined that the only difference between the 6a and the 7a is the on off switch. I have no idea when the switch was added, but the unit was purchased new by a now deceased friend who could have added it. the unit works good as it should and looks great. I am going to reduce the price to $ 125.00 shipped If it doesn't sell I'll keep it.
Also, thanks to Dave Obrien for his comment, it is possible that Goodrich did make a few of these units in the 6a model with a switch. Stranger things have happened.
Dave I think I sold you a carter s-10 with a pad a number of years ago.

I've never used one of these before. Is there significant change in the tone quality or is the device mainly to boost the gain without adjusting the amp?

I'm not a user of these items either, and don't know a lot about them. You can however do a search on the forum where there is a wealth of information.

A feature of the Goodrich is to have the ability to adjust tone and volume right at your finger tips.
