This is not some minor maladjustment. The pedal is broken. I'm taking the guitar to Jim Palenscar ASAP, and I'll probably have to leave it for a while and drive down again to pick it up.

Fortunately, I have 2 steels so I'll be able to do my concert on the 28th.

This is why everybody needs a spare.

(Previous post deleted, as I thought it was the pedal that was broken.)

Donny, Jim says he can fix it while wait. I'm taking the steel to him Tuesday morning. If he can fix it while I'm there it will spare me a second long and exhausting drive. But since I have 2, I'm covered if it will take a while.

Mike....a Knee lever snapped off my Sho-Bud S-12...and it wasn't the pot metal type..it was the Tear drop levers model...I got her in the mid 70's.It was a LKL. Lucky I had a spare and replaced it. Lucky it wasn't on a gig Laughing

I can see why that part would break where it did. Between the machining, the hole and the threads, not much meat left there. It's a small part, seems like Kyle at MSA could just mail you one (plus a spare!) and save you the drive to San Diego.

I sent the pictures to Kyle. But even if I had the part, I'd still have Jim install it.

I could work on my older classics, but the undercarriage of the Millie is way to complicated for me.

Earnest, you can replace it much cheaper than having it repaired.

Earnest
Send it on over to me. I have a thriving business re-purposing broken steel guitar strings into mandolin or bouzouki strings.

A small but loyal and thriving market, yes. Unless he moves back to Poland.

Cut of little broken part, grind two sides flat, drill another hole and you're done. Or better than that, get a piece of all-thread, cut and fix length of old one.

Henry, Thanks for the suggestion, but I am incapable of doing that. The replacement part in in the mail, and next week I'll take the guitar to Jim.

Sorry to here it broke down. That shiney spot on the other side looks like it broke and someone may have silver soldered it. If that is a standard bolt thread. To Ace Hardware or other hardware store, A bolt with threads long enough for the piece. Leave enough unthreaded metal and cut it off. With a vice and file, File the 2 flat sides and drill the hole. Back in business quick. Good Luck in whatever the fix.

Again, I appreciate the suggestion, but in a couple of days Jim will receive the replacement part from Kyle at MSA and he will install it while I go to lunch with a friend who lives near his shop.

It looks like that might not even need tools for replacement. It also looks like a likely failure point until there's a design change.

I'd order three more, for the A pedal of the other guitar and both B pedals. Inspect periodically.
