PRICE DROP 1973 Fender Vibrosonic Reverb // JBL

Post by Aaron Goldstein »

1973 Fender Vibrosonic Reverb amp. Purchased from the old downtown Gruhn's in Fall 2011. Had an EV speaker in it at the time; I replaced with a JBL M-series. My understanding is that it's a differently-branded D-series speaker, possibly for proprietary use by Peavey (this is secondhand info). Regardless, sounds great and just as it should. Four new Sovtek 5881's were installed and biased a couple years ago up here in Toronto. Since then: no touring; maybe a half-dozen sessions at my place; and I don't even think one gig. Maybe one. There is an ancient beer stain down the front visible in certain light; somebody cut small rectangles in the baffle for tweeters as was the fashion at a certain time; and there is a tolex nick on the front, visible in pictures.

Looking for $800 USD OBO
or
Trade or partial trade for other interesting amps (smaller dripedge Fenders, any Fender head, esp dripedge Bandmaster Reverb or blond Bassman, little Supros, Nationals, Garnets, etc), interesting Strats or Teles, studio gear especially ribbon microphones, compressors, steel guitars or related gear, etc.

Would love to do a deal in Toronto but also touring to the following cities in November, could bring the amp and an interested party could come meet where I'm playing:

NYC
Richmond
Nashville
Athens
Atlanta
Asheville

I don't think I'd ship this thing unless a buyer was really keen and wanted to pay the cost. Thanks for looking.

I know I only posted this yesterday, but I took a look at some comparables on the forum and have now attached a more reasonable price. Bumping it up.

Hey Aaron, where in Richmond will you be playing? I live in the area and I'm always interested in seeing some good live steel.

I use a '79 Vibrosonic with a JBL D130 as my main amp. Hard to beat if you want a tube steel amp (which I do)
Built in reverb, PLENTY of power, JBL speaker.
I had mine gone over, and it's been rock solid for 10 years.

A LOT of amp for $800. Great amps.

And that beer stain can be lightened or removed with a little careful cleaning.

Good luck with the sale!

Thanks Mike, I agree it is a fantastic amp. I've gone the route of playing lower wattage amps and this poor amp hasn't really seen any action.

Hey Nicholas, tourdates are below. I'll be out with Daniel Romano and Caitlin Rose.

I don't really step out too much on this tune but here's a sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyGgr2iQgDY

Great amp indeed. I have one like it, with a K130, and although I usually use a smaller amp, it's a beautiful thing when I need it.
Aaron, are you playing with Daniel Romano? If so, I'll see you in Athens - I'm a fan.

How convenient, John, because I am a fan of yours too. Please introduce yourself in Athens if you get a moment. Yes I am Dan's guy, and it appears as though we'll also back Caitlin. Buckle up because Dan's show is...well...different from the records. More rock and roll than anything else. Rolling Thunder style. But still some ballads in there too. And it's fun as hell.

It's good news any time a pedal steel is out on a tour.
