John Berry, Narvel Felts & Johnny Lee

Post by James Murray »

There was really good country music this past Thursday, September 15th at the Searcy Arkansas County Fair. Johnie Helms was smoking on his Sho Bud and lap steel with Johnny Lee. The crowd really loved all three entertainers and a good time was had by all.

Looks like a great show. I was in John's band for years at the start of his career, and while still smooth and great, he had a frighteningly good voice back then. I used to get such a kick out of seeing bar patrons with a glass halfway to their mouths and chins dropped listening to him.

I backed up Narvel at a show in Pinckney, Michigan about a dozen years ago and it was a fabulous time! Narvel is a perfect gentleman and a fine picker and entertainer as well! We traded off Tele licks although I couldn't do those floor pinwheels (or whatever they're called) with him - I imagine he doesn't get down there anymore either!
Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass!
