https://www.lessonswithtroy.com/-1-Intro-To-A6-Tuning-for-6-or-8-String-Lap-Steel.html
This is my first lesson for A6 Tuned either 6 or 8 String Lap Steel.
For 8 String Lap Steel it would be F#AC#EF#AC#E
For 6 String Lap Steel (just ignore the 2 lowest strings C#EF#AC#E)
In this lesson I cover alot of the basics: technique, chords, scales, positions, tuning, and using what you may already know on either Dobro or C6 Lap Steel, to help you understand A6 Tuning.
A6 Tuning is Great for Western Swing and Old Country!

Any of the 6th tunings will suit different tunes. I sometimes think of it as how much space you want behind the first straight bar position of the tonic chord. But that being said, I don't switch tunings much. I use A 6th mostly. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

Please checkout the "master" of the A 6th: Herb Remington.
Hawaiian, Western Swing, Standard Pops, Big Band - it is all there done on the non-pedal A 6th.
Thanx,

I like this concept tuning. I have a luthier building me an 8 string lap and I am thinking of going with this tuning. I think I could cross the line between country and swing easily. Thanks for sharing!

When I play 6 string I just have a straight A tuning but when I play an 8 string guitar, I oft times use an A6th tuning. |

No one better than Herb Remington and Billy Hew Len on an A6 neck. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

I tend to agree! and it's my "home" tuning.
I'd love to see more about Billy Hew Len on this forum. |
