Pete Mitchell

Post by Herb Steiner »

It is with the saddest of hearts that I must tell y'all that my dear pal, and the guitarist with whom I was always "in sync," passed away last night. I was just informed of this by his wife, Paula.

Pete has been fighting cancer for some time. It's a sad morning for me. :(
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

E T and the Texas Troubadours get another player back together. Pete was such a nice man and great guitar player. I had the pleasure and privilege to play with Pete a few times. He will be missed greatly.

I am so saddened to hear this. Pete was such a treasure. I feel so lucky I got to make record with him. Only problem was I kept halting the progress to ask him to show me how he did something! His approach to guitar was so cool and innovative. Some of those bends he did...man..three string bends....index finger bends...so fluid.

A sweetheart of a guy...

R.I.P. my friend.

So sad to hear of his passing. Pete was one of those pickers that paid his dues over and over and one heck of a nice guy. A loss for the music industry. RIP my friend

Pete was a great guy and one of my all time favorite guitar players. You never knew what he was going to play next and he always delivered. Pete was also an inspiration to me as a musician and a human being. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends. May he RIP.

Real sorry to hear this news. I got to see him play quite a bit and was lucky enough to play a handful of shows with Pete. His never the same way twice way of playing always made for good listening. He was a great guy with alot of great stories to tell, we'll miss him, R.I.P.

In the 1970's I met pete in pensacola, fl with ernest tubb. During one of the breaks I asked pete if he would show me a lick he played and he did. Such a nice and humble man. His passing leaves a significant void

A number of years ago at ISGC, Pete played guitar with Lynn Owsley on Lynn's set. After the set was over and they all came off the stage, I went up to Pete and asked for his autograph. He said, "Are you sure that you want MY autograph, I'm not a steel player". I said "I know who you are and, yes, I want YOUR autograph." He seemed pleased and signed it for me. I thought to myself, what a NON-egotistical guy. I believe that I was absolutely correct. I am happy to say that I still have that autograph.

Herb, I'm so sorry, ol' buddy. We're losing entirely too many, almost in clusters, it feels like.
