The singer reminded me so much of Kimmie Rhodes. But than I cheated and googled the song title, now I know who sang that and I'm almost sure who the steel player was. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

One of my favorite albums by two of my favorite people...Lola Jean Dillon and L.E. White. L.E. wrote something like 13 hits for Conway. This album is their version of songs they wrote for Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Cal Smith, Gene Watson, Reba McEntyre, Charlie Louvin, Conway Twitty, and Loretta Lynn. They gave me a copy personally. I used to work some with them. Jim Vest is playing steel on this album. If you're a country music and steel guitar fan, you should try to find this album.

You nailed it, Rick!
FYI - I will be on vacation for the next two weekends, away in the mountains and far away from computers, so no new clips until beginning of September!
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |

Joachim,
Who were you thinking? I believe I know. If I had not had first hand knowledge, I would have most certainly guessed someone else.

Well Rick I thought it was Loretta and Conway, backed by John Hughey. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

I forgot to relisten and off course those are totally different voices. There was a live duett by Kimmie Rhodes and a steel player, I think his last name was Morrell that sounded very similar. It was called "That Is What A Love's Supposed To Be". It's no longer on YouTube anymore. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

I would have guessed John Hughey too, if I hadn't known. It's so similar. Jim Vest is such a tasteful player that we don't hear much about. It seems there's just a handful of Nashville players that get all the credit, but those of us that look deeper than what's on the Walmart CD rack, or mainstream radio, realize that there's a lot of super players floating around. Also, L.E. White's influence on this album would certainly have contributed to the great sound and arrangements. L.E. had a good ear for country music and knew how to put a song together. I think of him in the Billy Sherrill category. He was also a fiddle player for Bill Monroe at one time. So, he learned things about music from one of the masters.
