I'm thinking of doing some 500,000 mile maintenance on my LTD 400. Noticed a little more hum than usual recently and figured at @40 years, it's probably due(!)
This thread included Michael Hartz's useful list of parts from mouser. When I look up the filter caps there, they are the snap-in type and much smaller than what is in my LTD, or what is shown on Brad Sarno's old page on the Session 400 .
Is that okay?
If you are wondering how someone who has to ask these questions is going to fare at installing these, relax--I'm going to let an amp tech do this work. I just want to assemble the right parts.

yes it's ok..many times the containers the CAP material is in is much larger than needed. . IF it's bigger it must be better ! 
What matters is the cap value and the voltage rating.

The important spec is the voltage rating.... Be sure to use a replacement which has a voltage rating equal to or greater than the part being replaced. If you have a choice, a cap with a higher temperature rating is also better than one with a lower rating. I believe the most common parts are 85C or 105C. Go with the higher rating if possible.
Capacitor sizes has shrunk mostly due to the use of much better insulating materials used in it construction than those of 40 years ago.
BTW: I had an LTD ages ago and the filter caps started to ooze black stuff after about 5 years.....

| I used mouser part # 5985-85-63v8200 in all my LTD and Session 400 upgrades. They are much shorter but the same diameter as the old caps, thus allowing you to use the metal cap holders that are already holding the two old caps. They are 63 volt at 8200uf. |
