ZB Custom F lever part

Post by Michael Hutchison »

I have a ZB custom that doesn't have the special part used for the half step raise on the F lever, string 4.

This thread describes it:

Does anybody have or make these?

EDIT: D'oh! I just realized there is a description in that thread of a way to get the F with a second rod. I'll just do that.

I highly recommend the alternate Greg describes in the link you provided, as it works just fine. I'm sure Greg or Billy Knowles can fashion the rod for you in case you don't have the parts.

Anybody know a source for the changer tuning nuts? I need at least one more for the F change and would like them to match.

They are a hex socket barrel nut of some kind it seems. Never seen that in a hardware store.

I am speculating, but as best I can tell, Zane must have made them himself. Take a 10-32 or 10-24 by 1 3/4 or longer cap screw (the threads don't go all the way up to the head). Cut it off about 3/8 from the head. Chuck it up in a lathe and drill and tap it to 6-32.

I looked and looked for standard hardware with the same diameter shoulder, the same size hex and 6-32 threads and there just isn't anything like that.

Maybe Michael Yahl or someone else has better info, but that's what I was able to come up with.
