My Bebop Tuning has all the inversions and feel and sounds used in Bebop. But it takes some work to practice the Grips, string skips and scales
It Utilises Jerry Byd, Leon McAuliffe's , Tom Morrell, Bill Leavitt and My Bebop all rolled into one. So it is a Combination tuning.
https://ilapsteel.wordpress.com/the-bebop-tuning/
So now I have to relearn but am extremely satisfied with its capability.
Some of the above discoveries were by accident but Tom Morrell and Leon were intentional.
Keep Steelin'
Back to the woodshed. _________________ Stefan

If it had an open C note it would be C diatonic (add a couple of other notes). Analyzing it is a little above my pay grade, but maybe it's some kind of Locrian mode...? The problem with tunings like this is... there is very little strumming of the strings allowed because of the close scale intervals. Same thing on the Alkire tuning and diatonic tunings. There's a lot of gold in the tuning, but it's difficult to mine. The player has to skip strings a lot, play awkward string grips, and it's hard to sound smooth on these tunings because strums and gliss are few and far between. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

I see it has the first four open strings of standard C6th tuning as a forward slant at fret #1 on strings 4, 3, 2 with the 5th string open or strings 10 -12 at fret 8.
I agree with Doug's observations and I've never had the kind of brain that processes info the way that these kinds of tunings work but I applaud you for going your own way and discovering new ground and for following your passion. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! So the first 6 string intervals are Leon
They also include a 6th with a 6/9 there just ready to grab
After much experimentation having a 6th in there is essential as it gives inversion options nicely.
The first 7 are from Tom Morrell's - This was an intentional change - who can deny that their is something about his playing close voicings and scales that sounds Emmon's like. Hell you would be hard pressed to know that it was Lap Steel Guitar . I still am amazed because Tom "The Wolf" Morrell rips and dare I say if he can do this without pedals. He has just outranked Buddy in my opinion.
I get why his album has the word Top-hands - dunno if there is anyone else out there at the time that could rip like him. Even now on Lap Steel Guitar. Such a clean player.
Strings 10-5 are Bill Leavitt tuning. - This discovery was an accident but what a beautiful find it was.
Strings 11 & 12 give the missing Roots for the Leavitt. in Minor, Dom/ Major Drop 2 and Root Inversions so you get that full guitar sound.
Man there is some serious woodshedding needed and yes THERE ARE SOME PRETTY NASTY STRING SKIPS towards the Leavitt side depending on the inversion you are after.
I think its now starting to make interval sense. I see how those western swing guys can Jam and not know all the theory. Hell I started to sound half decent on the Tom Morrell side of the tuning with those close intervals jamming along to Jazz tunes with no idea of Key or chords as a test. Just picking it out.
Tom was onto something for sure.

Tom really was a pedal player, though he recorded a lot on non-pedal. He even had a tuning with the standard guitar tuning smack in the of it. I've spoken with Johnny Case (a very close musical companion of Tom's) at length about this.
Your tuning could be called E13#9b9. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Man, that's a lot of strings. I can appreciate the work it took to get this up and running, and I look forward to hearing what you can do with this.

E13#9b9.
Wow what a scary name.
I can promise you that you wouldn't want to strum from 12 down to 1. It sounds definitely like 4 or so different tunings embedded that just jump out piece by piece. _________________ Stefan

Did Tom play Lap Steel Guitar on Timewarp top hands.
I know his Dobro piece is stunning but I'm pretty sure its Lap Steel Guitar .
If it is its even that much more impressive. _________________ Stefan

Yes, it was mostly console steel guitar with that group.
But he recorded a bunch on pedal steel, especially the jazz stuff with others. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

when i saw him play, he had a small lap guitar and a walter woods amp head. i think it was a 10 string. simple and nice looking. he played great!! his guitar was made by carson wells. the body was from mesquite wood. his old bigsby guitar was a triple neck, but he used the front neck to set drinks on... |

So console refers to those Lap Steel Guitar on legs that came out that look like pedal steel. So it was Lap Steel Guitar? Right.
Can't get over Timewarp Top Hands Album how clean and accurate the playing is for Lap Steel Guitar. _________________ Stefan

I find the combination of real close string spacing and real close intervals to be daunting, not the note selections but the blocking. It would be interesting to have a 12-string with "wider-than-pedal-steel" string spacing. |

Its actually easier than you think. I am so much happier with tighter string spacing on the first 3 frets for slants. Like my inverted C7 in a 2-5-1
It just means you need to be more accurate after the 12th fret but the upside is you can also do 4 fret slants easier.
You'll get use to it. _________________ Stefan
