I wanted a tuner that would display the actual wave frequency of each string in Hz. Found this free Android guitar tuner app that works with my cheap little smart phone.

Works pretty well. Then I found this other app from the same company that gives a more stable, more accurate reading.

I slip the phone under the strings of my pedal steel to tune it. Works really well in a quiet room. I wouldn't attempt it on stage unless I forgot my "real" tuner.

Cleartune does that. And there's the Peterson adapter to tune in silence
