Leon McAuliffe's Bouncing' Bobby riff

Post by Andy Volk »

Here's an easy-to-play Leon McAuliffe riff in A6th tuning that really swings due to his syncopated rhythmic feel - it's the rests that make it swing. From the tune "Bouncing' Bobby".

Guy Cundell kindly sent me this simpler, better interpretation of the lick. Sometimes things are less complex to communicate than they seem. Thanks, Guy!

Cheers, Andy. Happy to help with this great lick. Technology is a real boon but not without its pitfalls.

Another McAuliffe performance with some pretty sophisticated swing phrasing and harmonized lines.

Thanks, Andy. What a great tune! Praguefrank has it as a transcription circa 1953, unknown musicians besides Leon. Do you have any further details?

And thanks, Mike. Great video!

All I know is it's from an out of print CD collection. Amazon has a few LM CD's that contain great songs of his from that same era.
