Tom Baker of Sierra is at the ISGC this weekend and can most likely be found at Joe Wrights booth, as I understand that Joe has just taken delivery of the first Sierra Steel Guitar to come out of the new Sierra factory!
I visited the factory last week, and Tom has it all set up and is preparing a stockpile of parts in preparation for the upcoming "open for biz" announcement.

Tom Baker was at the convention, and Joe Wright was playing a brand new Sierra (number 1 for the new company!). Tom says the announcement will be soon (I can't say how soon), and you'll see it here on the Forum when he opens the doors.

An interesting aspect is that the manufacturer's name is not on the front of the guitar. Like many fine, hand crafted instruments (classical guitars, violins, etc.), the builder is identified inside the instrument. There's a Sierra plate and Tom's signature on the underside of the guitar. I thought that was way cool.

Far as I'm concerned if Tom's name were on them for the last 20 years, they wouldn't have had their little "interruption", as well as being a little better designed.

Tom Baker is a guy that DOES take input from actual players.

Good friend, good technician, good steel guitar builder.

God's Speed.

Fine young man.

Proud to have his business in my town.

Tom told me over the weekend that he is going to be making a lot of small mechanical changes in the near future that he was discouraged from doing in the past because of a "If it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality. This will no doubt improve an already fine instrument. He also said he would be resurrecting the Sierra lap steels soon. This is a good thing. -MJ-

OK, What does the new "TOM" guitar look like and what are the features on it? Tom is one great gentleman and a special credit to the PSG's.

It looks like a Sierra Session without the name decal.

I talked to Tom this weekend and Sierra is just about ready. Eric you absolutely correct concerning Tom. He is a fantastic guy.
I'm glad they are coming back. Tom should have been allowed to "do his thing" to begin with.
Lookout Excel!

This is great news for "Steel Guitar" no matter what you play. I am greatful for having played a MSA for 20 years and now a Sierra for the last 6.Two of the best made. IMO

Several of us Sierra players (including me) have ordered parts lately. I got some in the mail from Tom yesterday. And it was a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

Also got to talk to him on the phone to try to work out some kinks in my new, used, black, keyless Sierra Session D-10.

I was concerned about it at first but I'm liking it more and more. Now if I can just get that stupid little G# string back on there....
