Hello folks, I have a new- for me-
old guitar which I think is a Sierra Olympic 12 although Olympic is not marked anywhere. Anyway I am setting it up and noticed a few things. The pickup works but is not as loud as other pickups and hums a little. Is this the pickup or the two contact pins? It also slips out of position and then of course doesn't work at all. How are they supposed to stay in? Also on the changer on the top face of the guitar there appears to be two threaded inserts to hold a long pin through the spacers (?) for the changer fingers. Is something supposed to be in there? And finally on the 12th string, two rods are available but not functioning associated with the "E" knee levers. What are these tuned to? One I might be able to get to F however the other rod is really loose on this string. Any suggestions? Are the two point contact pickups readily available? Thanks |

Judging from looking at the map, Three Rivers appears to be between 250 and 300 miles from Jim Palenscar's shop in Oceanside. My suggestion is that you take the guitar to him and have him restore it.
You can drive down and back in one day and leave it, and then do it again when it's ready.
It's a lot of driving, but it will be worth it.

I always lowered the low E to C# on my F lever. That was very useful for rhythm chops.

I do the same thing, except the low E is on the 11th string of my U 12. I also lower lower it to C# on a separate lover, so I have the bass note for a minor chord.
