thumb style legend bob saxton has gone to the big stage
around 7:30pm, last nite, april 11th, bob saxton, joined the mighty band of heavenly players and singers to bring an end to his era and his place among the greats in his field.
probably on stage tonite with bobbie seymore as he renews old aquaintences from his near 80 year run since childhood.
r.i.p. bob saxton, it was good 'til the end of the show....you will be long remembered!
thanks

This saddens me.
Bob was a good friend, a great picker and a gentle man.
I truly enjoyed the times he picked beside me at the Gulfport show.
Bob, you will be missed.

I have known Mr. Saxton for many years having met him in the early 90's at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS). He could play most all of Chet's and Merle Travis' songs and play it correctly. He always had a smile and was a tremendous person. He will be missed. My deepest sympathy to all of Mr. Saxton's family.

What a great dude and player! He would always start singing "Be-Bop-a-Lula" to me every time we would see each other. Always loved sharing time with him. He will be greatly missed.

bob's services will be Monday, april 18th, at 2:00pm at the first Baptist church of laurel, Mississippi.
by his request there will be live music before, during and after the proceedings. bob didn't like dead air and insisted that his celebration of life be a true celebration and especially no dead air.
all are invited to attend.

We always enjoyed playing and visiting with Bob in Nashville each year at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society meeting. He was a "fixture" in the "Wallace" room. We will certainly miss Him this year. Another great regular each year was Moon Mullins, who passed recently. We are losing to many "icons" of a golden era in American Music and it saddens me deeply. Lonnie

Oh No!!
I rarely check the Gone Home section for just this very reason.Bob was a great guitarist and a good guy. Met him a few times when I was in Hattiesburg MS. He had an old Gibson ES350 if memory serves. What a talent. Godspeed Bob I am sure that you will be missed. My sympathies to his family and fiends.

With much sadness and then happiness, Bob's casket was marched out of the church to a standing ovation with SRO audience and the very large band of musicians, vocalists, ministers and close friends on stage all singing and clapping "Beulah Land". All standing and singing from all their hearts for this man and great guitarist. It was a grand send off, and even a lot of Bob's close friends and musicians really discovered WHO Bob Saxton was. It was a beautiful ceremony. If there is such a thing as "enjoying" a wake, this was it. Rest in God's Peace now my friend, Bob Saxton. Your seat on our stage here in Gulfport, Ms. will never be filled.

Bob was a great person and a great musician and a good friend . Almost every time I played at the Bill Stafford show,Bob would play "Ghost Riders" with me. Every time I play that song I will miss him more. He is in the best care now with the Lord. We will not forget him. Buck and Mitzi Grantham with our love.

Buck, all of us will miss Bob Saxton also. Sure wish everyone could have been there to hear all the music during the entire program and especially the standing ovation and the SRO congregation clapping and singing "Beaulah Land" while his casket was wheeled out. It was a true celebration of Bob's life and who he was. We have been touched by one of the best.

I had the good fortune to meet and perform with Mr. Saxton in Gulfport in 2005 at the Steel Guitar Convention. It was a real honor on my part! I am saddened to just now find out about his passing away.
What a fantastic player and just a great guy to visit with!
