| Besides your steel, amp, and a requisite six-string, what single other piece of equipment has helped your steel playing the most? Drum machine, tape deck, digital recorder, computer with BIAB, bong, tube preamp, fakebook, etc? |

| 4track portastudio was my best investment after all guitars and such. I still find tapes with things I have recorded but forgotten over the years. It is nice to rediscover early ideas and listen to how my style of playing has changed. |

| c'mon guys. the second best piece of equipment has to be the seat. in my case a drum throne. if I couldnt adjust my seat behind a pedal steel I would be bad off. |

I go for an occasional Balvenie portwood single malt... and hold the bennies!
For AFTER practice. 
Well, actual real start em up tools :
Trap Truly's C6 chord chart and the RealBook, to really get a handle on how things layed out
Then Biab for working on specific problems.
Like the same form in an odd key placement,
or specific chord changes and how chords and scales lay out over them.
Lastly ProTools for looping and slowing down certain master's licks in specific solos for analysis.
They are different incarnations of the same tool usage.
Ricky's idea is quit interesting too.
I would use a midi file of a chord done as a groove and play to that in many positions. |
