Question for Sid or anyone else on Live Steel Strings...

I bought several sets of nickle-plated strings from Sid back in June of 2014. I took out and used a couple of them before they were misplaced. I had also put the remaining packs in a zip-lock plastic bag. Seemed to be reasonably air tight.

That being said, just found the box and wonder if I need to toss it or take a chance on the integrity of the strings? My thinking is things age regardless of whether they have seen a lot of heat/humidity.

While I would love to hear from Sid, any thoughts would be appreciated. Hate to toss them but do not want them snapping/breaking in my face when trying to tune them.

As long as the zinc plating and the ziplock bag is intact, they should be fine.
Draw the string between your fingers, feeling for roughness, which would indicate pitting of the zinc (or whatever they plate with).

I put a desiccant packet in with them too, to absorb any moisture.
