Mounting plates
Cameron,
That's an interesting mod. If it sounds better , it is better. I also like your attitude regarding modifications. If it adds to your enjoyment of the instrument, vs. "saving it for the next guy" I say go for it. It's not like you're taking a chainsaw to a Stradivarius.
Scott, I believe my Zum uses nylon bushings, but don't mount directly to the body.
I'd like to hear from pickup manufacturers on mounting plate materials ,and from builders regarding mounting mechanisms.

Legrande
The very first night I played my brand new Legrande II out, the third string tuning key came off the keyhead. I modified it by replacing the tuning keys with sperzals. Eventually one of the East coasters got it and took the back neck off.
So thankful for Show Pro steel guitars...
