Wow, so sorry to hear of this loss today. Another country great crosses the bridge. I use several of his classic songs to teach folks how to get a handle on playing "the beautiful beast," as I like to call the pedal steel.

RIP, Merle.

Wonder if Norm Hamlet will now retire? If so, he's earned it.

I was sorry to hear about this. I guess we're all getting older and the performers that we considered young and full of energy are all reaching the end of their journeys, as are we.

Merle more than anyone got me into playing and singing country music. None better as far as I'm concerned.
Time to shed a tear and knock back a couple of George Dickels.
RIP Merle.

I never met Merle but feel like I have known him for decades. No replacement and nobody is gonna fill his shoes. There will only be one Merle Haggard.

RIP Merle...

The first time I saw Merle and the Strangers was years ago at the Hemet, CA Farmers Fair. This was a warm-up show for the shows at the Universal Ampitheater in LA the coming weekend. With the full Strangers swing/jazz treatment his first song out of the gate was Benny Goodman's Airmail Special. I can't describe the influence this had on my "Country Music" world view. The next song was Spanish Two Step which brought that old Bob Will's recording to full life right in front of me. The last time I saw him was on his Birthday in 2004 i think on the lawn/stage in front of the Fender factory in Corona. This is difficult.

I don't understand. I guess I'm getting more emotional in my old age. I never met Merle. I played a couple of shows with Merle's son Marty in the 80s. But never met Merle.

I met my wife at lunch and said said 'What's Wrong?' My voice broke when I told her Merle died.

Mom worked for Capitol Records when I was a kid. We had all of Merle's records when I was growing up. It was my 22 year old son who texted me with the news. My Dad did a great job indoctrinating my son to what is good music. My son's favorites are Merle and Jerry Reed.

Damn I hate this.

This is a terrible day for country music fans. Merle Haggard was always one of my favorites. It makes me wonder as the George Jones song said "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes". RIP Merle Haggard, you left us so much music to enjoy.

One of my favorite Merle songs is one you don't hear much:
White Line Fever ( A sickness born down deep inside my Soul).

Another treasure is the couple of youtube videos posted by Merle himself at Christmas a few years ago where he sits on his couch at home with his acoustic and sings a couple of Jimmy Rogers songs , California Blues one of them.
